A Celebration of a Collector: The Richard Robbins Collection
Our recent Summer Sale was more than just an auction - it was a celebration of a remarkable collector and a dear friend.
We were deeply honoured to present the collection of Richard Robbins, who worked closely with us for many years and is remembered with great affection. Richard was not only a valued colleague but also a passionate and knowledgeable philatelist, whose enthusiasm for collecting was evident in every aspect of his work.
Over decades, Richard carefully built a collection that reflected both depth of expertise and genuine love for the hobby. With particular strength in European countries and a fine range of British Commonwealth material - especially South Atlantic issues - his collection was thoughtfully arranged and rich in character. Each page told a story, offering insight into a lifetime of dedication and enjoyment.

The sale featured an exceptional breadth of material, including comprehensive 1937–52 Commonwealth mint and used collections, with strong representation across the iconic 1938 issues. Highlights included material from Ascension, Bermuda, Falklands, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, and India — including the ever-popular Gandhi issues - alongside a remarkable range of Indian Convention and Feudatory States, complete 1948 Wedding sets, and scarce Officials.
Further strength was found in the extensive QEII collections, both mint and used, spanning 1953–69 and housed in multiple albums with impressive completeness across many territories. The sale also included a fine long-run collection from 1878 to 1995, featuring key high values and sought-after sets such as the 1933 Centenary issues.

The response from collectors was extremely encouraging. Bidding was consistently strong throughout the sale, with many lots meeting or exceeding expectations - a fitting tribute to the quality and care that defined Richard’s collection. It was particularly rewarding to see these items finding new homes with collectors who will continue to appreciate and enjoy them.
While the results speak for themselves, what made this sale truly special was the opportunity to share Richard’s legacy with the wider collecting community. His passion, knowledge, and dedication live on through the collections he built and the collectors he has inspired.
Among the highlights were:
• A superb 1937–52 Commonwealth mint collection with extensive coverage and key 1938 sets
• Rare and desirable issues including Ascension, Bermuda, Falklands, Hong Kong, and Gandhi sets from India
• Indian Convention and Feudatory States with scarce Officials and complete 1948 Weddings
• A remarkable range of QEII material across multiple albums, both mint and used
