We provide clear, structured valuations that can be used for:

  • Probate applications
  • Inheritance Tax (IHT) reporting

Our probate valuation service includes:

  • Full inspection of estate contents
  • Identification of items of saleable value

  • Optional PDF copies for solicitors and co-executors

Where required, we can focus on items above a specified value threshold or provide a full breakdown.

Insurance Valuations for Art, Coins & Collectables

In addition to probate work, we provide insurance replacement valuations for private clients, collectors, and estates. This may be a requirement from your insurance company or broker, or simply provide you with peace of mind in the event of a claim. We can tailor our service to providing lists and values over a certain level, or based on auction or replacement values. You will be supplied with copies, which can be illustrated, within a few weeks of the appointment with our valuer.

These valuations are essential for:

  • Insurance policies
  • High-value collectables
  • Jewellery, coins, stamps, and antiques
  • Fine art and specialist items

Why insurance valuations matter:

Without accurate documentation, many items may be underinsured or not covered correctly in the event of loss, theft, or damage.

Our insurance valuation service provides:

  • Detailed written schedules of assets
  • Replacement value estimates
  • Optional illustrated reports
  • Bound hard copies and digital PDF formats
  • Updated valuations based on current market conditions

Reports are typically completed within a few weeks of inspection.

Working With Solicitors & Executors

We have long-standing relationships with solicitors and estate professionals, allowing us to provide a smooth and reliable probate process.

We regularly assist with:

  • Estate division between beneficiaries
  • Complex or high-value collections
  • Probate disputes requiring independent valuation
  • Multi-location estate inventories

Our service is designed to reduce administrative pressure and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Why Choose a Specialist Probate Valuer?

Choosing a specialist auction house rather than a general valuer ensures:

  • Accurate market-based valuations (not guesswork)
  • Identification of hidden value in collections
  • Proper treatment of rare or specialist items
  • Access to global auction markets
  • Realistic resale expectations for executors

Many estates contain items such as coins, medals, stamps, and jewellery that are significantly undervalued without specialist knowledge.

What is a probate valuation?

A probate valuation is a formal assessment of a deceased person’s assets for legal and inheritance tax purposes.

Not always, but it is commonly required where assets exceed certain thresholds or include valuable items.

Inheritance Tax or Probate Valuations

After making an appointment, our expert valuer will arrange to meet you at the property and list all items with a value above £500, and record any further items of saleable value. A short valuation will be supplied to comply with the law, and a fully researched and typed valuation will be sent to you or your solicitor, with extra copies available for co-executors, either as typed copies or in PDF format.

If you decide to sell specific items, we can provide a complete sales service. Valuables can be collected securely, with an itemised receipt of goods received. Valuables will be fully insured whilst in our care, with the option of guaranteed auction reserves and a negotiated commission based on the value of the consignment

At a time when family members can feel overwhelmed by the stress of bereavement, and the onerous legal duties involved, our friendly, experienced experts and our regular working relationships with local solicitors, can help make the process less difficult.
